MAPPING YOUR B.I.G.

#fybigint Dec 11, 2023

This is the third in a series of posts intended to support members who have come out as B.I.G. PEOPLE by declaring a B.I.G.

These posts are at Level 2 practices and above.

_________

In my last post I invited you to think of PLANNING as PLAYY. You were invited to do so regularly and consistently – employing your ability to remember, to be curious, to imagine, to take new perspectives and exercise your intuition.

In this post, I will deepen this invitation by sharing with you a tool that helps you to MAP your B.I.G. or any project as it unfolds. It's a tool that you can use to increase your awareness of where things with your project stand now.

It’s a simple checklist that you might use to answer the question, “How is your B.I.G. coming along.”

This can easily be done by asking yourself a series of questions.

Imagine that what we call a project is not really a moving projection. That  we are like a projector or a camera, that there is an image, a reality that is moving through you. Pretty much like the channel that Martha Graham suggests we each are.

Your B.I.G. is such a projection.

We have already looked at a possible design of this projector or channel. We imagined that it is rooted in an awareness of our VISION and shaped by our PASSIONS, TALENTS and the healing GIFT we have created for the world. And that these elements of the channel are anchored by a powerful GOAL.

Now let’s take a look at mapping a project. In “mapping a project we will be taking a look at the five elemental components that move the projection along.

Here are the five moving parts that are constantly changing. As we engage in projects, we can use them to “map” projects as they are happening in each successive “NOW MOMENT.” When we know them we are able to be more aware of the projection as it is happening. And the more consciously aware we are the more we become bigger and able to allow our B.I.Gs to happen.

So  we can easily remember them, let’s refer to them as the 5 Ps. PPPPP

  • P = PLANS
  • P = PRACTICES
  • P = PRIORITIES
  • P = PEOPLE
  • P = PAPER

MAPPING THE PROJECT

As you map the project, here are some questions you might ask yourself.

  1.  PLANS : What is the specific measurable goal of this project? What is my strategy now? What needed and by when for this project? What are my tactics for getting them?

  1.  PRACTICES: What can I do regularly to keep the project moving? Who must I stay in regular communication or have a meeting with? What are the internal and external operating  and communication systems and platforms that I can use for team communications and public facing communications. Are they up to date?  What are the personal and team practices that keep this project alive?

  1.  PRIORITIES: What activities must I do now that will impact the delivery of receipt of value. What are the income and expenses related to this project?  What wins (value exchange)  am I negotiating or delivering on now / today? What promises and requests are being exchanged? What is the win for each person? How are my resources and value being managed and exchanged within the team and with my clients? Is this exchange equitable?

  1. 4. PEOPLE: Who are the people on my team? What are their roles? What is my role? What hat am I wearing today? What hats are others wearing? In what ways can I support my team? What are their needs?  How are they being facilitated and coached?

  1.  PAPER:  DOCUMENTATION PHYSICAL & DIGITAL: Where is the project displayed, reported and evaluated as it unfolds? What displays or mock-ups of the project can I create? What am I using to track the project in real time as it unfolds?

Mapping best happens as an attitude of PLAYY! Some questions you might have immediate answers for others you might not. Simply to be aware of the space allows for it to be filled.

Your awareness and your ability to PLAYY is what moves the projection along.

With this said, where is your B.I.G. today? What’s going on? What are you noticing?
